Search engine optimization explanation

1. Structure of the texts

For optimal processing of the search terms, a number of general guidelines must be adhered to when writing the texts.

1.1 Page title and meta description

The title of the page is the first element that the search engine encounters when indexing the page. In addition, Google also shows this as a title in the search results. It is very important to match these with the most important search terms. In the Internet browser, this page title can also be seen at the top of the browser, as indicated below:

Each page has meta descriptions in the source code. These are not visible on the website, but are read by Google. They provide additional information about the content of the page, which puts Google on the right track. They can be seen in Google search results under the title.

The length of the title and the meta description is limited to a maximum number of characters. To ensure that they do not become too long, you can look at the available space here:

1.2 Text

With regard to the text, it is important that it is unique, and therefore does not appear on multiple pages. The text must match well with the search terms on which the page is optimized. Depending on the search volume, it is necessary to include the search terms a certain number of times in the text. The processing in the title above the text cannot be counted as processing in the text.

1.3 Points of attention texts

To prevent visitors from getting the feeling that they have to read through long sections of text to find what they are looking for, it makes sense to organize the text well.

  • Effective H1 header containing the most important search term(s).
  • Short and effective intro text.
  • Use subheadings (H2, H3, etc) so that visitors can quickly scan what to expect.
  • Use short, legible sentences.
  • Do not make the paragraphs per subheading too long.

1.4 Visibility of optimization elements on site

A number of images will follow shortly, which show how the elements will look on the website itself and in which position. This mainly concerns the page title, the H1 title, sub titles and the text itself. The Meta description will not be visible on the website for the visitor. This can be found in the search results and in the source code, so that Google can crawl this info. This way Google sees what the website is about in short and will therefore also influence the search results.

On the following images, the image above has been zoomed in. It shows the specific elements and what is currently incorporated in them.

Page Title:

The page title is visible in the search results, but also in the browser, see image below.

H1 title:

The H1 title is very important, it is the first thing Google sees, the main topic for a given page. The image below shows where an H1 is located. The aim is for the H1 to be placed as high as possible on a page, above the fold. So without scrolling, the H1 should already be visible.

Subtitles:

Besides using an H1 title, the use of subtitles is also important. The subtitles also support the whole and it is also useful to use them as indicators for paragraphs, for both Google and visitors. See an image below.

Text:

The image below shows an example of text containing search terms. Structure text into several paragraphs with subtitles.

Meta description:

This section is not visible on the page itself. The image shows where this is visible, so that Google can still use this info. Right click on an optimization page and then click on 'View page source'. There you will find the Meta description.
