Scammers on Google News

Google News contains ads that look like news stories, but are actually scams. Cyber criminals try to deceive users with counterfeit versions of well-known websites. They abuse Google News ads to encourage users to buy crypto coins, for example, in a legitimate-looking article. In addition to possible fraud, the fake messages also spread misinformation and damage the reputation of the news sites.

Moderation

Unlike some other platforms, Google does its best to control, or 'moderate', the content on its platforms. Thanks to the efforts of thousands of employees and automated detection systems, Google already removes a lot of malicious junk and harmful advertisements. Google says it will remove 5.2 billion ads and ban 6.7 million advertiser accounts from its own platform by 2022. Yet after every intervention by Google, cyber criminals manage to come up with new ways. It remains a cat-and-mouse game.
