Lawsuits against Big Tech over addiction are allowed to continue
An American judge has rejected the objections of Alphabet (Google), Meta (Facebook), Snap (Snapchat) and ByteDance (TikTok) against conducting a number of lawsuits. These companies could soon face hundreds of lawsuits for social media addiction in the United States as a result of this ruling.
The companies are accused of getting children addicted to their social media apps.
The ruling only applies in the United States. In other countries this has not yet happened. There the 'claims culture' is often less or judges are less inclined to go along with the trend of taking everyone to court.
