Google Maps for electric cars

Back

Google Maps will use AI to make electric vehicle (EV) drivers easier. As electric vehicles (EV) become more and more popular, Google is introducing a number of new features for EV drivers in Maps.

  • For any trip that requires a charge stop, Maps will suggest the best stop based on current traffic, your charge level and expected energy usage. This function was already available, but is now also available for shorter journeys. If you don't want to visit the indicated station, you can select another station with a few taps.
  • You can now also search for 'very fast charging stations', stations with chargers of 150 kilowatts or higher. This provides many cars with enough power to get back on the road in less than 40 minutes.
  • The search results now also show when, for example, a supermarket has a charging station. You can then immediately charge your car while shopping.

Improvements have also been made to directions, estimated time of arrival and when to take the next turn. Until now, this information was only visible by unlocking your phone, opening the app and using the advanced navigation mode. And if you take a different road, your trip will automatically update.
