Google introduces generative AI for advertisers
Google introduces new generative AI tools for ad creation. The tools can be used for writing the headlines and descriptions that appear in searches, as well as creating and editing the accompanying images. Advertisers can generate the text and images over and over again by adjusting or repeating the prompts/commands until they find something they like or that is appropriate. Google promises that it will never generate two identical images, which could leave two competing companies with exactly the same photo elements.
According to Google, the tool is ideal for use by advertising agencies and companies without their own creative staff.
Performance Max
The tool is for users of Google's Performance Max ad campaign product and can generate ads designed for Google spots like Search and Shopping. There will also be an advanced image editing solution, similar to the Magic Editor installed on the latest Google Pixel 8 smartphone.
The editor can also be used to update existing ads, while retaining a hero item. In one example, Google showed how an ad for a skin care product had its background replaced with a Christmas tree, making the ad ready for the holidays. It has also become easy to create variants for advertisements that can be used in different situations.
Users of Merchant Center Next, a tool that determines how products look on Google, will also have access to AI generative tools. All AI-generated ads and content are subject to SynthID, a watermark that helps detect content created with AI. So it is easy to see whether the advertisement was created by AI.
