Gmail encryption now generally available

Encryption of emails in Gmail is now generally available for businesses and educational institutions, after a beta version was launched last year. This setting ensures that emails cannot be read by third parties, not even Google itself, which hosts the emails. The data is encrypted before it reaches Google's servers.
The encryption can be applied to emails sent within the organization, as well as to emails sent to other parties, even if the recipient doesn't use Gmail. This can be useful for businesses that need to meet strict compliance or privacy standards or send highly sensitive emails.

Only for companies and educational institutions

This form of encryption is only available to users with a Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, or Education Plus account. It seems that Google does not want to make this encryption too easy either: the encryption is difficult to set up; the IT department needs to get involved.
The new form of encryption is also available for other Workspace apps, such as Drive, Docs, Meet and Google Calendar.
