AI tools for business Gmail accounts

After months of testing by more than a million users, Google is now marketing its AI (artificial intelligence) tools for business Gmail accounts for an additional $30 per person. The announcement was made at the company's annual cloud conference, held Tuesday in San Francisco.
Duet AI, as the set of tools is called, is now generally available for Google Workspace. In the coming months, the tools will also be available to other segments, including small and medium-sized businesses and consumers. Those interested have the option to start with a free trial. The price of the business version is the same as the price Microsoft charges for its "Copilot" office software, which includes Teams and Outlook.
At the Google Next conference in San Francisco, Google also showed off a new version of its custom AI chip and the tool to watermark and identify images generated by AI that we wrote about yesterday.

What does Duet AI do?

Google presents Duet AI as a partner that can drastically reduce the daily pressure of countless emails, meetings and action items to follow. “Duet AI allows you to focus on what really matters, while AI takes care of the rest.”
The tools help you write texts in Docs, compose emails in Gmail, and generate custom visuals in Slides. But they can do much more: Suppose you need to make an overview of the financial performance in the third quarter. Instead of having to look at forecasts in Sheets, P&L documents, monthly company summaries, and emails, you can ask Duet AI to do this for you with a prompt like "Summarize Q3 performance." Duet AI can then create a presentation from scratch, complete with text, diagrams, and images, based on the relevant content in Drive and Gmail. Duet AI can generate a summary of relevant source documents and automatically create a presentation in Slides.
Another example is making meetings more efficient. Duet AI in Google Meet makes meeting participants look at their best with a studio look, studio lighting, and studio sound. It also automatically translates subtitles in 18 languages; Meet automatically detects when another language is being spoken and shows the translation in real time.
Finally, Duet AI can take notes and send a summary and action list to the participants after the meeting. Latecomers who missed the start of the meeting can quickly catch up with a "Summary So Far," a brief overview of everything they missed. The specifications and samples look impressive, now it's time to familiarize yourself with the tools to make the most of the possibilities. And that will be quite a challenge if you are used to the 'old way' of working.
